Anna Paola comes from Espírito Santo in Brazil. She studied geography and then taught the subject in Brazil. Has taught Portuguese since coming to the Netherlands.
‘I like explaining the connections between geography, language and culture in my lessons because they are inextricably linked to one another. Brazil is so big that it’s extremely diverse. I talk about things like the economy, eating habits and nature. That knowledge is very helpful, since Brazilians first want to build a good relationship before doing business. Then you always have something to talk about. Speaking Portuguese helps as well. Even if you’re not fluent, we think it’s lovely that you make the effort to speak our language.’
