News, developments and articles from Regina Coeli
The Regina Coeli team is getting ready to re-open its doors, and course members are welcome as from Sunday, 7 June. With the necessary guidelines and protocols in place, Regina Coeli will be giving language training courses again at the institute in Vught. At the same time, it will continue to offer online language training courses.
For a number of weeks now, it has only been possible to have online lessons with our language trainers at Regina Coeli. The coronavirus forced us to close our doors on 16 March. However, in no time at all, we have managed to get online lessons up and running, which means that you can now learn in the comfort of your own home, albeit at a more leisurely pace. Afterall, lessons via a computer screen can hardly be compared with inhouse lessons at our institute. It was certainly worth the effort because apparently there are many people who are keen to learn a language, even in these circumstances.
As a professional, you know that continuing professional development is a must. Many Dutch collective labour agreements contain agreements on personal training budgets for employees. This means that you can request that your employer fund training or education. Research has shown that at least 40% of the time, individual training budgets go unused and simply expire at the end of the year. If you work for a Dutch company, make sure you reap the benefits of your training budget.
More and more employers are looking for employees who speak Chinese. Job vacancy site Indeed recently concluded this based on research they carried out in August 2019. Indeed compared the required language skills listed in Dutch vacancies with those from the previous year and saw a skyrocketing rise in demand—nearly 70%—for knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin).
Virtual reality is now part of the language training for more and more Regina Coeli students. VR glasses allow them to enter a virtual world while they continue to communicate with their trainer. Of the students who used VR in the past quarter, 75.9% were either satisfied or very satisfied with it.
Last year, Regina Coeli started offering language training at weekends. In fact, they have been so popular that we will be open fourteen weekends in 2019. People who took part in the Language Weekends in 2018 were incredibly enthusiastic about their experiences. They gave weekends an average score of 9.4.
